Princess Yasmin Aga Khan held the first Rita Hayworth Gala in 1985 to honor her mother, actress Rita Hayworth, who died as a result of Alzheimer's disease.

The event has grown into a premier social event, hosted in three cities nationwide: Chicago, New York and the newly added Dallas.

The Rita Hayworth Galas have raised over $53 million for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. These funds, combined with other donations, have helped the Association raise more than $250 million since 1984.

The New York Rita Hayworth Gala is the highlight of the fall social season for Manhattan's elite. Chaired by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, this event brings together prominent business, celebrity and social leaders.

Held each year at the world renowned Waldorf-Astoria, this 2009 black-tie event was filled with dinner, dancing and headline entertainment. Since its inception, the New York Rita Hayworth Galas have raised more than $30 million.
