Palm Beach, FL - The Palm Beach Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society today announced the success of the organization’s annual fundraising gala. The black-tie dinner dance took place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at The Ritz-Carlton in Manalapan.
During the cocktail hour, guests bid on an array of wonderful silent auction items such as a pair of outstanding diamond hoop earrings from Peter Luria of Tourneau and two beautiful Williams-Sonoma cooking baskets.
After cocktails, guests entered the ballroom, which was decorated in black and white with bundles of calla lillies as the centerpieces. To start the evening, Fred Astaire Dance Studio’s dancers Doreen and Andreas started the night off by performing a traditional ballroom waltz. Following the performance, the Chairman, Peter Rogers, did a brief welcome speech and then introduced Board President, Peter Brock, who announced a $25,000 gift in honor of this year’s Chairman. During dinner, Ethan Bortnick, an 8 year old child piano prodigy wowed the guests with his musical talents by playing such tunes as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Piano Man and Mozart to name a few.
Mr. & Mrs. Peter Rogers served as the Chairmen. Elizabeth Fago served as Chairman Emeritus. Mr. & Mrs. Jason Guari served as Junior Committee Chairmen.
Local sponsors of the Gala included Grand Benefactors - Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence J. De George, Mr. & Mrs. Simon C. Fireman and Lighthouse Investment Partners, LLC; Patrons - The Rhoda and David Chase Family Foundation, Ms. Elizabeth M. Fago, Mr. & Mrs. Sean McGould, Ms. Suzy Minkoff, Mr. & Mrs. John Preston, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Rogers, Mr. & Mrs. John Scarpa, Sun Capital Advisors and Mr. & Mrs. William Weprin.
