The American Lung Association of Florida kicks-off
6th Annual Jewels of Life Ball – The Land Down Under
with a Gala Board Luncheon at the Beach Club!
(October 24, 2007–West Palm Beach)– The Beach Club in Palm Beach was glittering with ladies who met to kickoff the American Lung Association of Florida’s 6th Annual Jewels of Life Ball, a benefit to provide funds for a cure lung cancer as well as cutting edge research, and life-impacting educational programs and services of the American Lung Association of Florida. Last year, Palm Beach socialite Suzy Minkoff initiated an important campaign to raise awareness and dollars for a cure for women’s lung cancer, which takes the lives of more women each year than breast, ovarian and cervical cancers combined. The current Gala Board is dedicated to continuing this critical effort.
To the delight of the luncheon attendees – Carol Ruggeri, Executive Director of the American Lung Association of Florida, announced that Leo Albert, a much admired Palm Beacher, has accepted the Association’s 2008 Humanitarian of the Year Award for his service to this community, his recognition and support of the work that the Lung Association is doing in the area, and for his continued effort to make this world a finer place. The Award will be presented at The Jewels of Life Ball in February.
The American Lung Association of Florida – Southeast Area is pleased to announce its gala, The Jewels of Life Ball – The Land Down Under, on the evening of February 22, 2008, at The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach with Committee Chairs Gail Worth, Laura Sherman and Faith Morford leading the event with a sure hand and experienced leadership.
Honorary International Chair Hermé deWyman Miro, Honorary Chairs, Leo Albert, the Nancy Sexauer Walsh Foundation, David and Rhoda Chase, and Corporate Chair, Countess Brigitte von Bulow, CEO and Chairman of Australian Festival-USA, also lend their support to the event. The gala continues as a tribute to Palm Beach socialite Ruthie Granat who began the event six years ago.
The Lung Association is very grateful to its past chairs and contributors that generously lent their time, treasure, talents and commitment to The Jewels of Life Ball, making it one of ‘the must-do events’ of the season. This year’s Chairmen all have very personal connections to the mission of the American Lung Association and are determined to make a difference!
Luncheon attendees included Gail Worth, Laura Sherman, Faith Morford, Hermé deWyman Miro, Norma Fireman, Lorrain Hall, BJaye Pilotte, Suzi Goldsmith, Hayden Hosford, Moira Fiore, Lisa Van Coppenolle, Candide Booth, Ava Coleman, Donna Ross, Maya Johnson, Cynthia Kasper, Brewer Schoeller, Dottie Wang, with Carol Ruggeri and Gail Kleinert of the American Lung Association of Florida.
A number of exclusive pre-event activities are being planned for gala sponsors and patrons - to ensure an invitation to these private parties one must become a Jewels of Life Gala sponsor before January 1, 2008.
The American Lung Association of Florida is excited to have teamed with Australian Festival-USA in creating a very authentic Australian flavor for the its Gala. “Working with Countess Brigitte von Bulow has been a delight, and the Australian Counsel has been working diligently with us to create an outstanding experience for gala goers – this isn’t going to be an ordinary event by anyone’s standards,” says Gail Kleinert, Area Director of Development for the organization. “We are encouraging people to attend their event: Australian Festival-USA (www.australianfestival.com) which is being held this year in Pembroke Pines from November 2-4, they tell us it’s going to be a fair bit of fun for all – and we absolutely believe them! The Aussies have landed, and they’ve been wonderful.”
Last year’s Jewels of Life Ball was a sold out event so early ticket purchases are encouraged and may be obtained at www.jewelsoflife.org. Tables and sponsorship opportunities are still available; for further information, please call Area Director of Development, Gail Kleinert, or Development Associate, Andrea Presberg at 561-659-7644.
