About Israel Cancer Association USA
The stars ICA USA saluted at the gala are not only those of the silver screen, but of so many brilliant scientists whose research in Israel results in cancer treatments, vaccines and cures that impact each of us.
A two-year fellowship to fund each distinguished scientist is only $22,000 and the funds are directed to research that has a specific objective, translating into treatments and cures for our families today and into the future.
The cost of cancer research being conducted at one of 38 top universities and hospitals in Israel is but a fraction of the cost for the same research in the U.S. With tens of millions spent in the United States marketing and promoting research, most of the funds in Israel are directed to the actual research process.
Recently Dr. Ido Wolf, one of ICA’s scientists specializing in Breast Cancer Research, did a presentation in Palm Beach regarding his discovery identifying the hormone Klotho as a potential suppressor to breast and pancreatic cancer. Klotho links aging to cancer, and the very tangible results of his research are remarkable.
The Gala was a meaningful opportunity to support these emerging breakthroughs, including ICA’s Stem Cell Initiative.
In Israel, there are no restrictions on embryonic stem cell research. Since 1952, ICA has spearheaded innovative advances in research, with achievements including a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for two of its scientists.
All of these remarkable achievements puts Israel and its scientists “center stage” in the global effort to benefit humanity. Anyone who demonstrates support for ICA will make a significant difference in creating a healthier future for generations to come and will participate in a grand humanitarian endeavor.

What a Night!
Red Carpet arrivals began at 7:00pm on February 8th at The Breakers, when Israel Cancer Association USA presented its 2009 Gala: “Hooray for Hollywood”.
This night of sizzling surprises and movie legend appearances featured MARILYN MONROE and DEAN MARTIN doing a tribute to the wonderful songs that made them so famous!!
Celebrating the evening were
Grand Honorary Chairmen Rhoda and David Chase,
Honorary Chairman Nancy Brown, and Grand General Chairmen Miriam and Alec Flamm.
Lexye Aversa, Chairman, orchestrated a whirlwind "Hooray for Hollywood" theme for the Gala. As a Global Event Planner, Lexye conceived and designed every nuance of the evening as her Labor of Love. When guests entered for dinner, a roving spotlight created the aura of movieland excitement, revealing the Circle Dining Room set like a Cabaret.
Centerpieces were gorgeous red roses atop a crystal bowl, topped with a black vintage movie camera accented with Gold Stars. Tables were named after famous movie stars, with rose petals adorning the tabletops, which were elegant with gold lame linens to the floor enhanced with sheer star-cut overlays.
A clapboard frame at each place setting held the "Academy Award Winning Menu". The stage backdrop of gold and red satin drapes created the perfect performance setting for the famous Street Talk Orchestra, whose music was embraced by all in attendance.
Each guest received a gold-dusted chocolate Oscar Statue as part of the "show-stopper" dessert!!
Lexye presented the "Academy Awards" including Credits for all the behind-the-scenes supporters.
Gratitute was expressed to everyone in the audience, with a tip of the hat to donations from "Friends"and a special thank you to the Celebrity Supporters Benefit Host Committee.
Top honors (with long-stemmed white chocolate rose) went to:
Best Casting Director: Nikki Levin, Lexye's Mom for casting her in "life"
Best Director: Herme de Wyman Miro, for directing so many great Palm Beach philanthropic performances
Best Executive Producer: Rhoda Chase for her extraordinary philanthropic generosity
