Leah Martin Nelson, one of Big Ron's three beautiful daughters, wrote this on his Facebook wall.
At about 9:30 this morning my father, Ron Martin, had a massive heart attack and passed away. He was loved by many, many people. The man in this picture, with the huge joyful grin and surrounded in love, is the man I will remember forever.
My best friend died of a massive heart attack on New Year's Eve. Ron Martin - "Big Ron" as I called him for 35-years - was one of the greats.
Hopefully if I can get myself together I will be able to write about him as it was Big Ron that told me for decades: "Write the book!" Neither one of us however knew that he would be the star of chapter one.
Sometimes depending on how I felt at the time I would sign my emails to him as "Little Ron." I'm 6' 1" so you can imagine how big Ron was physically, but in my mind that isn't why I called him "Big." He was, indeed, a giant among men and I will miss him with all my heart.
