ABOUT ECO ARTLAND 2009:  “The state of the global economy and the planet is where my inspiration came from for this year’s theme to kick-off Art Week in Miami and thus, the inception of

‘Eco Artland 2009’, “ remarked Hope Gainer of Hope International.  “I felt this was a year to make a statement about our planet in a creative setting, while both entertaining and educating the art community,” adds Gainer.  “Rather than showcasing expensive, unaffordable art, I felt it was more relevant to showcase art with a message.”  Also, with the upcoming Copenhagen Summit on climate control, immediately following Art Basel, this topic is very timely.  And coincidentally, the new nickname christened for Copenhagen is "Hopenhagen"!

Eco Artland 2009 will present a diverse selection of artists and eco-friendly companies and products each relaying a ‘eco/green’ theme to tantalize all the senses.  Artist Jorge Fernandez has taken the challenge to the nth degree in creating ‘Rainforest Parking Lot’ in collaboration with landscape architect, Harry Nelson.  They invested in clunkers from the ‘cash for clunkers’ program buying two gas guzzling Cadillacs they will turn into sculptures with forestry growing from the cars, complete with thunder and lighting special effects along with images projected onto their surfaces of eroding elements of nature by photographer, Tomas Loewy.  The excess of society is presented in conflict with Mother Nature in this imaginative art installation.

French artist, Marc Hubert D’Ge is presenting an installation titled ‘Each Man Kills the Things he Loves' showing a stuffed Hammerhead shark upon which he is projecting images from the HOME movie created by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, photographer & Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program and chosen as "2009 Environmental Hero" by Time Magazine and the founder of GoodPlanet Foundation (www.goodplanet.org), a non profit environmental organization  created to raise public awareness of environmental protection and to bring concrete solutions to the Earth's ecological crisis.  Home movie trailer and full length movie can be viewed for free online at www.goodplanet.org  with spectacular imagery of the planet and a strong statement about its current unhealthy state.

Artist Nikeangel is showing a mannequin named ‘Mother Nature’ made from recycled material.  Maria Arminda Palacio has circular canvases inspired by Mother Earth with abstract images of our oceans and sky still in their clean state.  Argentine artist, Frankie Ollervides has a painting of a bull being milked by humanity while recycled fashion designer, Julia Kreibich takes a more whimsical approach with recycled postcard fashions.  Other green fashions include emerald couture necklaces from Colombia by Marcella Acosta and couture green dresses by Brazilian beauty, Majorie Andrade.  Artist, Michael Thomas Diaz has recycled coconut juice cartons into a holiday tree with green coconut ornaments!

The Electric Bicycle Store will showcase a variety of colorful electric bikes and scooters “driving” down the estate entranceway gas-free...while SkySail Charters will let you hop aboard their green sailing vessel docked poolside.

Guests will be able to imbibe on micro-green salads with edible flowers compliments of Rock Garden Herbs mixed by Passion of Life Gourmet.  Additionally, Grass Restaurant & Lounge will provide tastings from their new menu.    And to quench their thirst, guests will have flavorful Bacardi Green Mojitos, organic wines from Eno's Wine Bar  and O.N.E. Drink flavored coconut water from green coconuts plus Icelandic Glacial Water which is one of the first Carbon Neutral certified bottled waters in the world.

Grow-Miami.org has named their edible floating art in the pool, ‘Art Basil’ made of basil leaves.  Each guest will receive a basil pin which will make all the guests green and fragrant.

Even the invitations for Eco Artland 2009 can be recycled.  Not only are they printed on recycled paper, but paper with flower seeds so the actual invitation can be planted and Sprout! as the company who created it is named.  And our recycled goody bags donated by Whole Foods come with a slogan, ‘I used to be a plastic bag’.

If our VIP guests are truly inspired by what they see, touch, hear and smell as they experience Eco Artland 2009, perhaps they will be motivated to bid on Al Gore’s autographed book, ‘Our Choice, A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis’ benefiting Take Stock in Children before they head home.  As the inside flap of the book states,

“We are at a crossroads.  We must choose which earth will be home to future generations.”  Al Gore
