W. Jackson Pledger, Ph. D., is the Director of Research at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, one of the top ten leaders in cancer research operating with more than 4,000 employees in Tampa.
When center founder  H. Lee Moffitt visits the center he stops by Pledger’s office and asks: “Did you find a cure for cancer today?”
Well, of course, Pledger cannot say that a cure has been found, but he can, with great pride, report to Moffitt, former Florida Speaker of the House of Representatives,
that a cure is close at hand. “At Moffitt, we are making advances at a lightning-fast pace and our mission is clearly in view ... to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer,” Pledger told the Palm Beach audience at the sold-out luncheon at Cafe Boulud at the Brazilian Court Hotel.
“Florida ranks number two in the nation in number of cancer cases and Moffitt is going into motion by setting up a statewide network of hospital partners so that services are available to all.”
He pointed out that one out of four Floridians will be stricken with cancer. “Moffitt is leading the way. We are in motion with momentum quickening; cures being realized; lives being restored,” said Pledger.
The center, which lists a “who is who” of Florida on their boards (ie: Chairman and Senator Connie Mack; attorney Benjamin Hill, III and chair elect Edward Droste) will hold their annual Magnolia Ball on May 3 in Tampa and will feature “Chicago.”
Palm Beach Today Magazine & Newspaper, sponsors of the luncheon, will attend and cover the gala.
